Sights, Sounds & Soirees is set to bring together the best in up and coming South Australian musicians, filmmakers and event planners.
Students of Music SA’s Cert III and Flinders University Bachelor of Creative Industries have collaborated in a once-off event, seeing their film and music works come to life.
For the past year, the Flinders University film students have been working alongside up and coming local musicians and bands, creating and directing their new music videos. The music videos will be showcased at Sights, Sounds & Soirees, which Music SA Cert III students have been curating over the past few months.
Embodying the wintery theme of Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, Cert III student Taylor Pfeiffer says the students are planning to transform Producers Hotel (in Adelaide) into the comfortable warmth of a lounge room for one night only. “We thought that people probably won’t want to come out of their warm homes, so we will create a warm and cosy, winter atmosphere so people feel encouraged to spend their time at the event,” she says.
Alongside completely redecorating the space, the event will not only showcase the creative filmmaking talents of Flinders University students, but a number of the featured bands will be performing. “It’s a warehouse music festival, where music meets visual,” Taylor explains.
“It’ll have a warehouse vibe, but it’ll be nice, warm and cosy, with lamps, Persian rugs and couches, so the audience will get a sense of a winter wonderland and pretty much a living room, with bands and a social atmosphere.”
Taylor and her fellow classmates have had a unique opportunity to experience event management in a real setting, which Taylor has loved every minute of. “Usually at school, everything you learn is out of a textbook. But this is very practical and I love learning based on experience. I really like the idea of creating something that comes to life and that other people can enjoy.
“The highlight for me has been working on the marketing and promotion, because I love that side of things. But I’m really excited to see the event come to life, because we’ve been brainstorming for a while now and it’ll be wonderful to see the audience, bands and the film clips come together.”
