Welcome to this week’s brain-splitting edition of Shred Vicious!
Extreme metal fans will be thrilled to hear that metal legends Carcass are in the studio right now mixing their first studio album together in seventeen years with acclaimed producer Colin Richardson. The band has yet to secure a label home for the effort, which is expected later this year. Talking to Decibel Magazine, cocalist Jeff Walker said: "We've taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it's in our blood, but it's no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I've jokingly christened some parts 'trad blast' and some 'death sleaze'… don't think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we're setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on [laughs]".
Slipknot fans will have to try and remain calm for quite some time yet as vocalist Corey Taylor has now said it will be two years before any new material is released. Taylor spoke both with The Pulse of Radio and Loudwire saying "Essentially, I want to start looking at putting demos together for Slipknot fall of 2014, to go in the studio in 2015 and start making an album. So it's gonna be a while." Taylor returns to Australia this month with Stone Sour for the Soundwave Festivals. The second part of House of Gold and Bones will be released early April.
Hard rockers Extreme have been forced to postpone their previously announced Australian tour. The band's official statement regarding the matter reads as follows: "Due to an unforeseen conflict in scheduling, Extreme regret that they will be postponing their previously announced 2013 April Australian tour. The band is looking forward to returning to Australia and reconnecting with their loyal fans and are working with Lennard Promotions on rescheduling the tour. All tickets purchased will be fully refunded and revised dates for the tour will be announced at a later time. Extreme and Lennard Promotions regret any inconvenience that this rescheduling may cause for those who have already purchased tickets and look forward to announcing revised dates as soon as possible."
In other touring news, Tool have announced they will be returning to Australia for a nationwide tour this coming April. We are also hearing a lot of rumours surrounding tours later in the year from Rammstien, Rob Zombie and possibly punk rockers Green Day. Keep it locked here for more news as it comes to hand!
LA’s gritty bad boys Motley Crue will be back in Australia in March along-side Rock legends Thin Lizzy and Kiss. Loudwire recently caught up with Motley bassist and primary songwriter Nikki Sixx to talk about the songwriting sessions for the next Motley album. "We've been writing," Sixx said. "We started the record with the song 'Sex' and I have a ton of riffs. I know Mick [Mars, guitar] has told me he has a ton of riffs and it's just a matter of now collecting riffs. For a while, it was only writing segments of music and getting together and collaborating but now I'm starting to finish music more like I used to more like I used to in the old days and finish it top to bottom. So I look forward to getting in the room with my band and going, ‘Here are ten of my ideas, what have you got?' and then we kind of let that process happen."
Motley Crue fans better make sure they catch this tour, as it could be one of the band's last. When asked about touring, Sixx said: "We haven't been shy that [we have] been talking about somewhere in the near future doing a farewell tour. We talked about it on Piers Morgan and different interviews. It's not that we hate each other or we don't work together well. I think it's just at some point we want to leave it with some sort of a legacy that's leaving it in a good way. I just see some bands that keep fucking beating a dead horse and I'm like, 'Get off the horse, dude, it's dead.”
Rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie visited the Philadelphia Flyers last night to watch a game and catch up with some of the notorious Broad Street Bullies, who will be the subject of his forthcoming movie about the brutal '70s hockey team. While watching the game, Rob spoke to Philly.com and NHL about the project, where he is with the script, what attracted him to the film and more. "It's the greatest sports story ever not told. It's been told other ways, but not film," Zombie said. "I had to do it. It reads like fiction. It's so incredible."
According to Burst Magazine, Pelham Spong will portray Bon Scott's longtime love interest, Margaret 'Silver' Smith, in the upcoming rockumentary trailer for Bon Scott - The Legend Of AC/DC. She will appear opposite actor/singer Rob Liotti, who has been given the nod to portray Scott and has received a throng of international publicity. Spong spent a number of years acting in France before returning to the United States in 2010. Footage shot last month by director J.R. Getches is reported to be in post-production with a tentative release date in March. A source close to the production said that the teaser footage involved "an interview of some type of the late singer" and that staff members were "elated" about the performance. High Voltage Productions is also said to be considering broadcast rights offers by numerous television, cable, and satellite affiliates to option the teaser scene as a first time exclusive on their respective broadcast entity. Interested networks should contact the production company through the High Voltage web site at www.thebonscottmovie.com for consideration as no agreement has been reached to date.
