Shakafest Hangs Loose On The Gold Coast With An Insane Line-up

National Music Editor, based in Brisbane, Australia.
'Passionate about true crime docos, the Swannies, golf and sleep, I’ve been writing about music for 20-plus years. What I’ve learnt? There’s two types of music – good and bad.’

The Gold Coast will heat up this winter when the inaugural Shakafest descends featuring the gnarly line-up of Drapht, Dune Rats and Spit Syndicate alongside graffiti art as well as a massive half pipe with all-round skaters to create the ultimate skate demo.

A reflection of the local street scene – combining Aussie hip hop, surf rock, skating, art and food – Shakafest smashes together the valued, niche cultures that the Gold Coast is famous for, attracting people looking for something new and exciting to experience.

Three future, local legends – Peach Fur, Ivey and Von Villains – will be thrashing the stage with their hectic tunes and groovy moves as well as favourite rockers The Vanns and Kiama punk act, the White Blanks.

"We are creating an experience that will appeal to so many different scenes on the coast; Shakafest will draw in all walks of life and expose people to new genres of music, sports and art," says Tamie Bennett, owner of Wedge Head Events who are collaborating with Miami Tavern for the event.

Shakafest takes place at the Miami Tavern 27 August.
