Secondhand Toothbrush: Ipswich Battle Of The Bands Profile

Secondhand Toothbrush at Ipwsich Battle Of The Bands in 2015
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Secondhand Toothbrush's Facebook page describes their music as 'punk-rock at its worst'. Though they're quick to add 'but we guarantee a good time every time. Even if we're the only ones laughing.'

They'll be competing at the 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands this weekend.

Name of band: Secondhand Toothbrush, but our friends call us SH*T for short.

Style of music you play?
We play a kind of twisted blend of punk, fast rock, metal, ska and... it's pretty much punk. Ipswich punk; our own, little sub-genre if you will. Which is obviously as awesome as it sounds.

Band highlight so far?
That would have been earlier this year when we went on tour. Well kind of. We did a self-funded trip around South East Queensland/ Northern NSW; played a heap of shows in new places to a couple of new faces too.

The band's influences?
Varied. Everything. We like both kinds of music; rock and roll, not necessarily in that order either.

Which act/ group would you guys love to support?
Aussie icons: The Smith Street Band, The Bennies, Luca Brasi and of course, Monster Fodder, The Knockbacks and Whiskey and Speed. Because these guys are doing for Aussie music what other bands from Australia did before them.

What's the biggest misconception about Ipswich?
Well, let's just stick to the music scene and say: 'There's no good bands or venues in Ipswich and it's a cultural wasteland'. Whatever that means. There has been, and still, is a heap of talent in Ippy, and the local venues are starting to re-open their doors to the scene.

The band's rider includes what?
Usually two house beers each, but sometimes a single jug of beer with four glasses. Do the math.

Finish this sentence: In 12 months our band will be...
Still wondering if we got the answers in this questionnaire right.

Who would be the ultimate person to be the band's spokesperson?
It's funny you should ask; this position is available right now; paying in experience and hugs.

Given we have a federal election underway, why should people Vote 1 for Secondhand Toothbrush?
If your choices are a dried-up douche, a slimy piece of crap... and us. It's pretty clear what you must do.

Favourite music movie or documentary of all time?
We all have differing opinions on this. 'Dig', 'Montague Of Heck', 'Some Kind Of Monster' and 'Spinal Tap' are definitely contenders though.

If you had no budget constraints, what would you add, incorporate into your live show?
Fire-breathing dragons and a petting zoo.

We spend too much time on this website/ app?
We probably spend way more time than is considered healthy on Bookface and Tubeyou...but who's to say what is healthy.

Can you tell scenestr a joke?
Yes. Have you heard us play?

The 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands takes place at the Ipswich City Square Saturday 2 July from 11am until 7pm.
