Brisbane indie darlings, Screamfeeder, captured our hearts and ears with their blissful pop-rock in the late 90s and naughties.
They continue their return with brand new single ‘All Over It Again’, their first new music in ten years. Guitarist and vocalist, Tim Steward explains how the new song came together in a series of writing sessions with bandmate and co-vocalist, Kellie Lloyd.

“Last year when we decided to get the band back in gear and doing things again, we got inspired because the shows were really great. Kellie and I found ourselves writing on a weekly basis around at her house and initially it felt like it did in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s when we used to write together. The process was fairly easily, enjoyable and we got some great stuff out so we kept running with that.
“I had that tune on the guitar and it was one of those songs I purposely didn’t put words to because I knew if I did, mine would be too busy, wordy and complicated. I decided to leave it for Kel because she’d put something simple on that would work and that’s what she did. We knocked it together in a morning really; it was one of those lucky, lightning strikes moments.”
Tim explains how he and Kellie rediscovered the writing dynamic they shared that gave us hits like ‘Gravity’ and ‘Hi Cs’, a relationship where Tim’s tendency for complexity is balanced by Kellie’s poetic brevity. “That’s what I found,” he says.
“If I’m sitting at home writing I tend to get really wordy and want to explain everything to the nth degree, whereas Kellie’s much better at leaving things ambiguous, more poetic and less literal.”

Screamfeeder will launch ‘All Over It Again’ at The Zoo and Tim says he’s looking forward to playing at his old stomping ground and a venue which goes hand-in-hand with Screamfeeder’s history. “We’ve played The Zoo countless times, so I remember very distinctly playing it back in the old days when there was no stage, you had to order food, there was a big jug of sangria on the bar and that was just about all on sale liquor-wise.
“There was a massive mural around half the inside of the back half of the room. It was very ‘90s and looking back on it, it feels like it was the ‘60s; it feels so loose and free and casual, that’s how it was back then.”

Beyond the single launch, Screamfeeder are developing a new album which Tim says has been going well with several songs already written and a view to record it at the end of this year.
Fans can also expect a tour later this year when Screamfeeder release another single.“I think what will happen is we’ll record the album at the end of this year and get it out early next year. Process has been slow and steady, so we haven’t got 100 songs but we’ve got half a dozen and we’re happy with them, so we’re getting there.

“What we did when we recorded ‘All Over It Again’, we recorded another single as well. So that one isn’t mixed yet, but it’s recorded and ready to go, so that will come out around October and we’ll hopefully do a short tour around then.”
Screamfeeder play The Zoo 8 July.
