A band who were part of the post-hardcore boom of the 2000s, emo rockers Scary Kids Scaring Kids will tour Australia late 2025.
The run of shows – Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in November – will see SKSK perform a set celebrating their self-titled second album (2007) that garnered them industry-wide acclaim. They'll be joined by fellow American post-hardcore band A Skylit Drive.Despite not releasing another album (although work had begun on a third SKSK record), the band disbanded in late 2009, with original singer Tyson Stevens missing several performances as part of the band's Van Warped 2009 tour (Craig Mabbitt of Escape The Fate, Brandon Bolmer formerly of Chiodos, Vic Fuentes of Pierce The Veil and Cove Reber, formerly of Saosin, filled in on vocals for the rest of the tour).
After Stevens died from a heroin overdose in 2014, in 2019 band members Chad Crawford (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Pouyan Afkary (keyboards, synthesisers, piano,) and Peter Costa (drums) released a song titled 'Loved Forever' to honour what would have been Stevens' 34th birthday. The song was written and sung by Crawford.
The band reunited for 'The City Sleeps In Flames' 15-year anniversary tour alongside touring members featuring Cove Reber on vocals in early 2020 before COVID scuttled further touring plans.
Now a six piece, original members Crawford and Afkary are joined by new vocalist Albert Schweizer (Violent New Breed) alongside Kash Jaeger (drums), Colton Westerman (bass) and Johnny Natoli (lead guitar).
With their signature sound – cinematic melody, layers of intricate guitar and full force vocals – A Skylit Drive are a perfect balance of aggressive screamo with the pop-leaning aspects of emo.
