Save Our Sando: The Photos

The Hitmen
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

If you're an inner-west local, you'd almost have to be aware of the battle to save the Sandringham Hotel (the Sando) from the bank's clutches.

If not, chances are you missed out on last month's rally in Newtown, but that's fine. That was just the start of the battle.

The Save Our Sando (SOS) crew are holding a series of events to bring attention to their righteous cause, and one of these is an exhibition of Sando-related rock'n'roll memorabilia and photography, covering the history of the pub from 1968 to now.

Contributing visual artists and photographers include Kyleigh Pitcher, Andrew Pittman, Rod Hunt, Tracey Nicholson, Andrew McNeil, Pedro Xavier, Chantel Bann, James O'Conner, Fiona Grace Macdonald, Leah Thompson, Tim Webbko, James Sherwood and more to be announced. Tony Townsend will display momentos from the pub's 40 year history, and local artists like the Rev Kriss Hades and street artist Damedismember will display work for purchase. You can also expect live acoustic sets in the Gallery foyer from Sando regulars.

The exhibition runs at Fire Gallery (22 Enmore Road, Enmore) from September 18-23. Naturally, all proceeds go towards the fight to Save Our Sando.
