The nine-piece Melbourne group that shares its name with the Canadian mountain man is in the middle of their ‘Nose Dive’ tour.
Saskwatch will be wrapping up the tour with a date at Splendour In The Grass. “I've never been to Splendour before so I'm happy to be going,” vocalist Nkechi Anele says. “I've never been able to afford it so I'm pretty happy to be going up there. I want to meet everybody while I'm up there, we're pretty excited. It's gonna be a pretty sick time.”
One question the band is asked regularly is how hard is it for nine people to coordinate themselves for band practice? Nkechi declares they’ve never really had issues during their five years, and despite the band being such a large ensemble, they run into very few problems when it comes to songwriting. “Sometimes there [are] small things about people’s tastes on how things should be played if we're changing things up a bit. But there's never been any really strong arguments about the music, we're all mainly on the same page. We might have discussions about making things better if they're not working. I guess there are a lot of opinions around and there [are] nine people in the band, so there's always going to be a lot of opinions.”
The ‘Nose Dive’ tour celebrates the album of the same name. “Some content is more about relationships and I guess the darker side of relationships, the part of relationships that people don't really like. And the sound of the album is not as bright and party-like as the album before that.”
Saskwatch have a full schedule ahead of Splendour, but are already beginning to make plans to tour internationally. “Hopefully we'll be heading overseas. Not quite sure which country we'll be heading to at the moment because there [are] a few things that are up in the air. But if we're not heading overseas and playing we’ll be working on our next album.”
