Promoter announcement:
It is with great regret that TEG Dainty advises that the SandTunes Music Festival scheduled for Saturday 30 November & Sunday 1 December 2019 is cancelled.
The event, which was set to bring a windfall of more than $10 Million for the southern end of the Gold Coast, was originally scheduled for Coolangatta Beachfront, and was relocated to Metricon Stadium following a campaign by the Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey and some local business owners.
TEG Dainty President and CEO Paul Dainty said: “We tried our best to make Metricon work for SandTunes. Metricon is a world class venue which has a storied history of live music and festival events including Foo Fighters, the iconic Big Day Out and the blockbuster Queen + Adam Lambert in February, which we have all but sold out.
“But the reality is that without sand between our punters’ toes, the very notion of the beachside festival in a stadium meant low sales and we had to make the hard decision to cancel this major Gold Coast event.”
A number of major cities around the world are hosting beach music Festivals – an idea that the leading international promoter thought would work on the Gold Coast, a city renowned as a beachside mecca for tourism and fun.
Dainty said: “This whole concept started with bringing a great music festival to the beach which we see happening the world over in major locations like Spain (Barcelona Beach Festival) and Alabama (Hangout Music Festival). I’m disappointed because I believed this could have grown year-on-year into something really big but unfortunately, we weren’t even able to get it off the ground here.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to the many people who have spent numerous hours over the past two-and-a-half years trying to bring this event to fruition. I would also particularly like to thank the ticket purchasers and supporters of this event. Despite this setback, TEG’s commitment to work with the Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast to bring major acts to the city is still strong now and into the future, starting with Queen + Adam Lambert in February next year.”
REFUND INFORMATION
Tickets purchased by credit or debit card will be refunded in full (including ticket insurance premium, if relevant) and patrons do not need to take any action. Patrons should allow up to 10 working days for the refund to appear in their account.
Patrons who purchased tickets in an Agency using cash or EFTPOS will be contacted via phone in the next 14 days to arrange for a full refund.
Update - 3 September, 2019: SandTunes will be moving to a new venue, after listening to responses from the local community. The two-day music event will now take place at state-of-the-art Metricon Stadium on 30 November and 1 December, and extend entry to fans aged 15 years and upwards.
Summer just got real hot thanks to the line-up of a brand-new festival, SandTunes, on the Gold Coast.
Hitting up Coolangatta Beach in November/December, SandTunes is set to feature some of the world's biggest artists, headlined by US rapper Travis Scott.
In his only Australian appearance for 2019, Travis flips popular music, culture, and fashion upside down. His third full-length album, 'ASTROWORLD' opened up as an ultimate musical attraction of 2018 which catapulted to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 as well as the iTunes and ARIA chart.
Also on the bill for his first ever Australian visit is LA-based, Grammy Award-winning rapper, Logic. Logic is known for his superior lyricism, cinematic storytelling and significant underground fan base.
Chicago rapper Juice WRLD will dazzle Coolangatta Beach with his debut album 'Death Race For Love' ready to be performed in a live setting. Having collaborated with the likes of fellow rapper Future, and Benny Blanco, Juice WRLD has already set foundations, playing to sell-out crowds.
It's been a long wait for her die-hard superfans but queen of Canadian pop Carly Rae Jepsen will headline the event with a backlog of hits including 'Run Away With Me', 'Call Me Maybe', and 'Cut To The Feeling'. This is Carly's debut performance in Australia.
Scotland trio CHVRCHES will bring synth-pop to the Gold Coast including their breakthrough single 'Recover', and Sydney-born Dean Lewis will present tracks such as 'Be Alright', 'Waves', and 'Stay Awake'.
