Northern NSW bohemian rockers Salt and Steel have released a new single, 'Violet Skies', a song inspired by the 'power of a storm and the significance of breath'.
The duo of Briony Edgar (guitar, vocals) and Elle Steele (drums, percussion) recorded the new track (the first of four interlinked singles to be released throughout the year, following the themes of the elements 'earth', 'air', 'water' and 'fire') at Blind Boy Studios (Gold Coast) with Brad Hosking (Amy Shark).
Briony even built her own harp and recorded it for the first time on this song.
“We felt compelled to share the message that it’s ok to feel however you are feeling in a moment, even if it’s not good, but know that the world around you is full of colour and beauty, and is ready for you to see it again,” Briony says.
Salt and Steel will bring their earthy, rock, blues and roots inspired sound to stages on a tour of northern NSW and SE QLD next month.
“Our lives are chaotic on the road, travelling non-stop between shows. We often miss out on the amazing space in-between. We needed to take a step back, absorb and feel inspired by the beauty which surrounds us again,” Elle says.
“Exploring the element 'air' has brought new inspiration to the writing process and as a result, 'Violet Skies' is a truly honest expression of ourselves.
“It explores going through hard times and coming out the other side feeling stronger and empowered. It’s about moving through the darkness and coming out into the light feeling stronger and wiser.”
