South Australia's best emerging and established First Nations artists will be the focus of a Treaty, a new, live music showcase that will be presented during NAIDOC Week 2020 (8-15 November).
A tentpole event of Umbrella Festival Presents: GO LIVE, Treaty welcomes and encourages the participation of remote and regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, while offering the opportunity for creative collaboration in metropolitan Adelaide. Featuring South Australia's best emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music artists, the Treaty line-up includes rising NT rapper J-MILLA, hip hop groups Sonz of Serpent and DEM MOB, plus rapper RKM aka Rulla Kelly-Mansell.
Singer-songwriters Tilly Tjala Thomas, MRLN aka Marlon Motlop and Katie Aspel will also take to the stage, with MC duties jointly handled by J-MILLA and Natasha Wanganeen.
"Treaty celebrates the best of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and culture through music," Music SA First Nations Industry Development Coordinator, Letisha Ackland says.
"It's a brand new event of its kind in South Australia and offers something for everyone to enjoy. Talented young Indigenous people have the opportunity to experience an event in motion – from stage management right through to performing.
"We are also very proud to present Treaty at Tandanya, Australia's only national Aboriginal cultural institute as a NAIDOC Week event."
Treaty is a collaboration between Music SA and Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, supported by Carclew. It is a COVID safe and alcohol/drug free event.
Treaty is a free community event. Ticket reservations were required (due to COVID-19 restrictions), but the event has reached capacity and is sold out. It will now be live streamed for free.
