As she celebrates the 15th year of her career, our very own Ricki-Lee is touring Australia with her 'A Star Is Born + Greatest Hits' show.
“It's going to be a really fun and exciting show; there is something for everyone. Definitely bring your dancing shoes if you're coming because I expect people at my shows to dance!” exudes Ricki-Lee.
The last we heard from Ricki was the release of her single 'Unbothered' in late 2018. Since then she has been working on getting herself and her band ready for this tour. “The last couple of months the focus for me has been putting together this tour; it's a lot work, lots of fun but a lot of work that goes into putting on a tour,” Ricki-Lee explains.
Ricki is excited to be performing live again, and has been busy “soaking up every last second in front of that mic, even if it is just in-front of the band”.
“As artists, the thing we get to do the least is performing; like all of that work goes into creating something. But for me, the most fun part of my job is the actual preforming part and it's the part I get to do the least,” Ricki-Lee says.
“Not saying that recording and writing isn't fun, but really the pay-off is performing and seeing the faces of the people in the crowds and hearing them sing the lyrics you wrote back to you.”
Ricki-Lee first went to see 'A Star Is Born' at the Sydney premiere with her husband and three of her girlfriends.
She felt a strong connection to the movie for a number of reasons. A Lady Gaga obsession; an ode to Judy Garland, who was a major singing inspiration throughout her childhood; and a connection to the main character, Ally, and her journey as well as a respect for the depth and beauty of the soundtrack.
Needless to say, this movie was made for Ricki-Lee. Which is why she has chosen to dedicate the first half of her two-hour show to songs from the film’s soundtrack. “The first 50 minutes is going to be songs from 'A Star Is Born' and that's going to be very music focussed because those songs are such great songs and don't need to be jazzed up.
“Then the second hour is all of my music and that's when we step it up and bring out the dancers and there will be costume changes,” Ricki says. “There's going to be songs that I have never performed live like my Australian Idol audition song ‘Don’t Let Go’ by En Vogue... It was such a big turning point for me in my life; that song changed everything for me.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun no matter how old you are; there’s going to be people of all ages at this show. It’s going to be a great night full of great music for everyone.”
