Wallows' The Model tour arrived in Melbourne on Monday, and what an incredible show it was.
An alternative rock band from the US, consisting of three members Dylan Minnette Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, Wallows began releasing music in 2017 and have continued on with their success. Before the concert began, there was a huge banner that hung in front of the stage with the band's name written on it; this was the perfect way to get the crowd excited for what was going to come next.
The moment the lights dimmed and the banner dropped, we were left with the silhouettes of the band members singing the introduction to their song 'Do Not Wait'. This was such a unique way to start the show as it left the audience excited and ready to party!
The atmosphere was like no other, fans were cheering and screaming their hearts out the moment the band finally revealed themselves. Their sound overall was a mixture of indie, pop, alt rock. The sounds of the instruments mixed perfectly together with their vocals.
The lighting throughout the show was mesmerising, with colours of purple, blue and red shifting to match the mood of each song. The colours created a dreamlike atmosphere that perfectly complemented Wallows' sound.
During high-energy tracks, the lighting would flash in sync with the beat amplifying the intensity in the room. During quieter moments of the show, the colours created a softer glow over the audience pulling everyone back into the music.
The backdrops were truly beautiful, enhancing the atmosphere without overpowering the performances, adding a layer of depth to the show for the perfect balance.
One of the more unique moments of the night was when the band, mid show, ventured to the B stage, which was situated the other side of the arena. It was setup like a cozy, intimate studio space, completed with lamps beside the piano. The atmosphere was cinematic, with no harsh lighting pointing directly at them. Just a soft, warm glow that made the whole scene feel incredibly personal.
Throughout the show, Wallows found different ways to interact with the crowd – whether it was a smile, a wave or a high five those moments felt truly special. The chemistry between the band was undeniable, their interactions onstage making it clear they are not only incredibly talented musicians, but also friends who genuinely enjoy performing together.
As the night went on, the energy never stopped. With each song, the crowd became more and more immersed, singing along and feeding off the band's energy. It was a show full of heart, soul, and energy, one that left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.
A fan favourite 'Are You Bored Yet?' was finally performed during the two-song encore; I have never seen a crowd so excited to hear a song.
As the final notes rang out, it was clear Wallows had given their fans more than just a concert. They had given them an unforgettable experience. The night felt like a celebration of their journey as a band, and it left me eager to see where they'll go next.
