Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

To be completely honest, I'm a Montaigne fan girl.

It's been a long relationship going back to the FBIi SMACS festival in 2016. Fast forward to 2024 and Montaigne can add Grammy Award nominee, actress, Eurovision contender and Archibald Prize muse to the list of their amazing achievements.

The Beautiful Trial Show tonight (19 March) as part of the Great Southern Nights live gigs promotions is different. Montaigne has entered a new stage of their career, breaking free from traditional record labels; this is now a solo affair and the start of the magic that happens when talent, passion, and creativity collide.

From the moment Montaigne takes the stage, it's clear this is more than just your average gig. It's a new stage of their career – stripped back, no band, no management, no PR, no merch seller; just Jess.

Montaigne's infectious energy is matched only by their genuine connection with the audience, sharing personal stories behind some of their most loved songs and encouraging crowd participation. Every audience member felt seen and heard.

After each song introduction of hilarious and, at times, heartbreaking storytelling, Montaigne's explosive vocals stream through The Vanguard, commanding attention with every note.

The set list is a curated journey through the diverse discography of Montaigne, with in-depth stories of how each song came about and the complicated relationships of partners, family and friends that inspired each from 'Lie To Myself', 'I Am Not An End', 'Because I Love You' to 'I'm A Fantastic Wreck' and 'Complex' – each song is a testament to Montaigne's unique vision and creativity, and the emotional connection that makes their albums so unique.

With each track fans are invited into Montaigne's world, sharing thoughts, fears, tragedies, hopes and dreams. Tonight's trial has been a success. Montaigne has a loyal and passionate fan base that can not wait to see what this new direction brings in 2024.
