Dami Im has proved herself as arguably one of the greatest vocalists to come out of Australia, since her 'X-Factor' win in 2013.
In 2019 her abilities are even more impressive.
Performing to a keen crowd at Brisbane's The Tivoli, Dami showcased her impeccable skill effortlessly, and with the same charming humility Australia fell in love with six years ago. Her crowd interaction was minimal, but it was also genuine, and you can really tell she feels comfortable on stage. During this, her hometown show, she made sure to mention she always wanted to play The Tivoli, so it felt special to bear witness to it.
The night was a shining showcase of Dami's hits; tracks such as 'Super Love', 'Smile', 'Alive', and 'Fighting For Love' got people bopping along, while 'Like A Cello' and 'I Hear A Song' were peeks into the artist's foray into jazz music from 2018 – welcome additions to the setlist which displayed her versatility.
New single 'Crying Underwater' fit like a glove with the rest of the music, the singer prefacing the performance with an anecdote about depression and being afraid to speak up about our emotions.
Dami of course closed the show with the stunning Eurovision hit 'Sound Of Silence' which got her second place in 2016, (someone in the audience yelled 'you should've won' and Dami replied, adorably, 'yeah... Oh well') and it was beautiful.
Her genuinely faultless rendition of Prince's 'Purple Rain' acted as an encore, receiving a well-deserved standing ovation – something Dami is no doubt used to receiving considering her immense talent.
Keep glowing, Dami. You continue to make this country proud.
