After a few years away, Melbourne's Ceres are back with a fiery return to form.
After their first release since 2019, 'Want/Need' that dropped in May – a song that embodies the spirit of the band and their fans so well - Ceres kicked off a four-day, east-coast tour at the weekend, playing their second sold out show at Melbourne's Northcote Social Club last night (14 July), supported by local up-and-comer Suzi.No stranger to some huge support slots, Suzi knew exactly the energy they needed to bring to the stage. With Sunday's show only bringing one support, Suzi provided the energy of three supports with an incredibly energetic and touching set. The room was already packed with dedicated supporters from the start of her set, their passion unwavering.
While a slow and awkward start looked like it might plague the headliner's set, with an ominous but overbearing white noise blasting the room and a less then smooth curtain pull to reveal more blackness, Ceres kicked straight into gear opening with 'Choke' off 2016's 'Drag It Down On You'.

An instant connection formed with everyone in the room, filling every heart with nostalgic emotion. Between each song, groups of patrons could be heard yelling "we f...ing love you Ceres!" leading to laughter by frontman Tom.
The Social Club's energy really kicked in after the band's third song, '91, Your House', with patrons both front and back clutching their friends and screaming each word. A performance on its own, the crowd's persistent emotion and love for the band ceased to waver, with every word of every song being sung louder than it was onstage.
Before a live debut of their recently released track 'Humming', in which the band also confirmed an upcoming album release, 'Stretch Ur Skin' was another huge moment of the night, with many waiting years to hear that song in its live glory.

With 'Want/Need' Ceres insisted on friends for those sweet group vocals. Inviting Suzi back onto the stage, the whole room went up in chorus for a loud and perfect way to finish the night.
Not too fast however, as a swift and touching encore left the crowd with the band's heralded track, 'Viv In The Front Seat'. Sunday night showed an incredible comeback for Ceres and glistening future ahead for the band, with a new album we can anticipate to hear soon.
