In celebration of the 20th anniversary of their debut album 'The Poison', Welsh metal veterans Bullet For My Valentine have returned for their largest headline tour in Australia to date.

Some anniversaries come with champagne, others come with double-kick drums and thousands of people screaming about heartbreak and betrayal.

Flanked by powerhouses While She Sleeps and The Devil Wears Prada, the line-up offered a rare snapshot of metalcore across generations.

Opening the night (15 October) was Sheffield's While She Sleeps, who set the mood with a sharp performance that felt less like a support slot and more like a warning shot.

Frontman Loz Taylor commanded the stage with a ferocious energy, blending a relentless and precise vocal performance. The band's use of lighting added depth to their stage presence, and the crowd responded in kind with constant movement in the pit.

Taking the middle slot was Ohio's The Devil Wears Prada. As the first riff hit, you could almost hear a thousand MySpace profiles reactivating themselves. Drawing mostly from their recent material, they still know how to drop a breakdown that you can't help but make a stankface to.

Vocalist Mike Hranica remains a twitchy, charismatic presence, delivering balanced visceral screams with melodic clarity. New tracks 'Ritual' and 'For You' landed well with a crowd eager to warm up, and proved the band can still administer a tight, confident set.

Taking the stage under dramatic lighting and massive applause, Bullet For My Valentine launched into a career-spanning set that leaned heavily into 'The Poison' to honour its 20th anniversary.

Opening with 'Her Voice Resides' and launching into '4 Words (To Choke Upon)', the crowd was more than happy to scream every word like it was still 2005 and they were angry at their parents for not letting them get snakebites.

There are two types of people in this world: those who have screamed 'Tears Don't Fall' into a pillow, and liars. Unsurprisingly, this song was one of the night's biggest moments, with hundreds of phones in the air recording and every lyric sung in unison.

The production value, from lighting to pyrotechnics, was notably polished, adding weight to the band's veteran status. There's a confidence in BFMV's live presence that comes only from years on the road, and their ability to still connect with their fanbase is a testament to the enduring appeal of their music.

Not all bands make it 20 years, let alone headline international tours and still bring genuine heat to the stage. Bullet For My Valentine showed they've earned their legacy, and with While She Sleeps and The Devil Wears Prada in tow, the night echoed the glory days of Warped Tour without feeling stuck in the past.
