Punters of Margaret River nestled into a cosy fairy light-lit venue The River, to embrace and immerse themselves in the much adored indie folk band, Boy & Bear.
The River is an intimate venue that completely matched the energy and tunes of the band to a tee. The five-piece captivated the crowd (5 October) from the first song, kicking off with 'Strange World' and 'Bridges'.The whole set was perfectly orchestrated to infuse all of the must be heard oldies and some recently released tracks that the audience embraced with loving ears.
It was obvious the band was in flow, effortlessly transitioning from one song to the next with lead vocalist Dave Hosking slinging into a new guitar change with almost every song.
Drummer and backing vocalist Tim Hart brought his humour and conversation to the show, creating a connection through laughter which resonated into the crowd.
The boys cover of Simple Minds' 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' was a clear favourite of the night with the punters transforming into a choir from the first word.
All of the favourites like 'Southern Sun' and 'Walk The Wire' were clearly loved and the freshly released tracks off their new EP 'Lost Dreams' where received highly from the crowd.
'Mexico' was a favourite off the new EP; it offers a harmonious blend of nostalgia and contemporary sensibilities. You could feel the sense of summer days and sun-soaked adventures through the ebbs and flows of mellow vocals.
One of my favourite tracks from the night was 'Big Man', a slower and more heartfelt song that shifted the whole room – or maybe I was just feeling the feels. Either way, it was a beautiful song that I remembered clearly as I went to bed after the show.
All together, the show was a memorable evening that brought together the community over the love of music and Boy & Bear, and I'm sure the folks of Margret River will be stoked to see the band when they return in the future.
