Ahead of their national tour, RedHook have shared the sultry, heavy new single 'Cannibal', a song empowering women's sexual liberation within the heavy music scene.
A collaboration with Melbourne metalcore titans Alpha Wolf – and produced by Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore) – 'Cannibal' follows previous RedHook singles 'Breaking Up With', 'Scream 2' and 'Tourist' that are the first tastes of a larger release from the band in the coming months."I wanted to write a song that felt like Nine Inch Nails meets 'WAP'," vocalist Emmy Mack says. "An empowering metal anthem that would help me smash some of the stigma and shame around sex that I felt for a long time after surviving SA.
"Consensual sex is one of the most awesome things in the world! We're beyond grateful to the legends in Alpha Wolf for backing this vision, for helping us inject more sexual liberation into the world of heavy music, and above all, for conspiring with us to create a horny metal song about oral sex that people can f... to."
After a 2023 that saw them tour with The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction as well as completing their biggest ever, largely sold-out headline tour, the Sydney alt-rock band will headline concerts in Canberra, Jindabyne, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney and Brisbane in August-September.
The tour will see RedHook joined by Melbourne melodic rock force The Beautiful Monument and Newcastle pop-punk stalwarts Eat Your Heart Out, with Perth metalcore rising stars Patient Sixty-Seven opening each show. "It's been 16 months between soju shots, but we're ready for a full send," adds Mack.
"We couldn't be more excited to hit the road with this insanely good line-up (to be honest, I'm very excited for the ladies' bathroom to be extra crowded on this tour) and hang with all our legendary fans, who are the entire reason we do what we do. See you in the saxophone circle pit!"
