Real Estate Have Fresh Music Incoming With New EP 'Half A Human'

Real Estate's new EP is titled 'Half A Human'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Chilled indie rock kings, Real Estate are back with more new music a mere 12 months since releasing their fifth studio album, 'The Main Thing'.

Although the global pandemic has kept the members of Real Estate separated for the longest period of their career (not to mention off the road), the four-piece of Martin Courtney (vocalist, guitarist), Alex Bleeker (bassist, vocalist), Matt Kallman (keyboardist) and Julian Lynch (guitarist) put the extra time they had to return to the stems of a number of songs they first constructed during 'The Main Thing' sessions.

Despite not being in the same room or location, the group quickly found ways to craft the parts of these unfinished songs into fully formed musical ideas, while also taking stock of the band's own creative processes to arrive at a new thesis statement for the band.

The result is the 'Half A Human' EP. "Life keeps changing and additional responsibilities and stresses keep being added, but this band is still here," Martin says.

"When I was writing a lot of these songs, I was feeling a little weird about being in a band. Like, 'how is this still a thing?'.

"I was feeling silly about it and then coming around to it at the same time. This is what we're good at and it's what we love to do and want to keep doing. I don't want to do anything else."

The title track brims with charming indie pop melodies matched with retro rock tones and strumming guitars that continue to build throughout till it sounds like a cosmic rocketship is ready for take-off.

'Half A Human' EP is released 26 March.
