Currently in the country on tour with The Offspring, last night Simple Plan hosted a number of diehard fans prior to their Melbourne concert.
I was lucky enough to catch Simple Plan backstage for the meet and greet. I took the time to ask them a few questions about how the tour is going and new music that is to come. Take a peek. How is tour going so far?
Pierre Bouvier: [Majority of] the tour is sold out, and it's a pleasure to be playing with The Offspring again.
We are huge fans, and we also toured with them once last year or the year before, all across America. We had a great time, so we've become pretty good friends, we get along really well, and it's been super nice. The fans here are loving it as well.
Considering you were just here last year with Boys Like Girls, what brought you guys back so soon, and what keeps bringing Simple Plan back to Australia?
Pierre: [The Offspring] asked us, because they were looking for an act to go with, and even though we have been here just in this last year, we felt like, you know, it would be a fun thing to do with them.
Meet some new fans as well, who obviously can be Offspring fans and Simple Plan fans. It was an opportunity for us to come back to a place that we love, and we couldn't say no.
If you were to re-record any of your songs featuring The Offspring, which song would you choose?
Sebastian Lefebvre: Thank You. That's good.
Chuck Comeau: 'I'd Do Anything'. Punk rock, fast one.
Sebastian: Yeah.
Chuck: No, because I wouldn't want to get rid of [Mark?].
Sebastian: Yeah, but that's the thing. Maybe 'Addicted', I think. 'Addicted' would be a fun one. That one we could play a little bit faster the way we do it live. Then [Dexter Holland] can take over the second verse or something like that. It would be great.
Your new song 'Young & Dumb" with Avril Lavigne drops tomorrow May 9th. What was it like being apart of such an important song about both of your careers starting out and being able to explore that value of friendship?
Pierre: Her first tour, we opened up for her in America back in 2003. The fact that we got to do it again last year in the summer, and now we're doing another part with her again.
It's been really nice to kind of reconnect with someone who we came out with at the same time, you know what I mean? Obviously, she's had a much bigger success than we have, but we've both been on the same trajectory. It's been nice to be able to get back together and just sort of feel like, you know, 20 years has not gone by and we're just playing together like we used to.
Also, celebrating the fact that as a band, we have very similar lives now to what they were 20 years ago. So, we still get to be young and dumb and have a good time, do stupid things, and just be on tour, you know, so it's great.
She's super fun. She's great at [creating the TikToks with us]. I think we both, Simple Plan and her, understand the comedy of them and how to embrace it, have fun with it. So, it's really fun to be able to collaborate with her on those.
What's next for Simple Plan? Are you just focusing on touring for now or can we see more music being released in the near future?
Pierre: New material. We have the new song with [Avril Lavigne] coming out.
Then we have another song coming out that I can't even tell you about yet. That's coming out soon. Then, after the end of this tour cycle, we're going to put out some new music. I don't know what it's going to be. A record or an EP or something, but probably by the beginning of 2026.
