Queensland Symphony Orchestra: Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone In Concert @ Brisbane Convention Centre Review

Pop culture, pop music and gaming are three of Jesse’s biggest passions. Lady Gaga, Real Housewives and The Sims can almost sum him up – but he also adores a night at the cinema or a trip to the theatre.

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra delivered a simply spellbinding performance at Brisbane Convention Centre, playing the music of 'Harry Potter' to a bewitched audience.

As 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' ran on a big, high definition screen, the orchestra played every piece of music in the score. It was breathtaking, and at points I forgot they were even there because of how faultless it sounded.

As someone who has seen the film (and, admittedly, owns the soundtrack) I can confirm for any sceptics that the music was played completely live with no help from the original score, and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra even added a few little twinkles of their own here and there.

It was like seeing the film for the first time again. And at the same time, it wasn't like seeing a movie in a cinema, because we were in the theatre. This meant there was a more appropriate atmosphere to clap for the heroes, laugh at the jokes and boo the villains in the film.

Masses of people turned up wearing Hogwarts cloaks, donning Gryffindor scarves and more. It was the perfect 'HP' fan event where watching the movie in full was just half of the magic.

If reliving the stunning, iconic movie and hearing that famous theme song live weren't enough, QSO announced a second show in the 'Harry Potter' concert series: 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', playing at the Convention Centre in October.

The 'Harry Potter' films are world-renowned for their music. Composer John Williams' efforts, in this case, were showcased flawlessly from start to finish, and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra proved that they are a truly gifted and widely appreciated group of musicians.
