One of the instigators of punk rock in Australia, Brisbane's The Saints will be immortalised through a large scale, inner-city Brisbane mural.
The project was announced at the launch of the 2017 BIGSOUND in Brisbane this morning by the Queensland Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk. "BIGSOUND is a world-class contemporary music festival that continues to go from strength to strength as it enters its 16th year," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"Many of the 150-plus musical acts converging on Brisbane for BIGSOUND would acknowledge the huge influence of The Saints, for not only helping change the face of rock music worldwide in the 1970s but for showing that a Queensland band could have a big impact on the world stage, paving the way for many of the great Queensland musical acts to follow."

The 2017 BIGSOUND festival runs until Friday 8 September featuring 153 music acts and 360 industry speakers – including Australian industry legends Tina Arena, Archie Roach and Dave Faulkner, along with British music manager Simon Napier-Bell (Wham!, The Yardbirds, Ultravox), Hollywood music supervisor Mary Ramos and CEO of London-based Worldwide Independent Network Alison Wenham – at 18 venues throughout Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
The Saints mural and music project was developed by musician and academic Dr John Willsteed, himself a member of another influential Brisbane band, The Go-Betweens. “The mural will be situated on the north side of Upper Roma St, close to The Saints’ original practice room, share house and live music venue at 4 Petrie Terrace, known as Club 76," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"In conjunction with this will be a concert and recording by former Saint Ed Kuepper, who will re-imagine songs from the first three Saints albums in collaboration with Robert Davidson of Topology."
