Bluegrass cool and bango magic will enliven the Adelaide Festival Centre’s 2016 Adelaide Guitar Festival, with Punch Brothers and Bela Fléck and Abigail Washburn to headline the 11-14 August event.
Punch Brothers, who last played Adelaide in 2012, return to showcase their latest album, the T Bone Burnett-produced 'The Phosphorescent Blues', which was Grammy-nominated for Best Americana Album this year.
The band, who open the festival 11 August, were also nominated this year for Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance for 'Julep'.

Adelaide Guitar Festival Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan says having performers of this calibre signifies the importance of this world-famous Guitar Festival. “Punch Brothers are one of the most significant bands in the world today. Their extraordinary and unique soulful virtuosity is unrivalled.

“We’re also so excited to be bringing the much loved Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn to Adelaide off the back of their Grammy win for Best Folk Album. This is the first time the duo have been to Adelaide together and we are so lucky to have them.

“Fleck [16 Grammy Awards] has done for the banjo what Segovia did for the guitar 100 years ago: this is mind-blowing facility and lyricism on an instrument not usually associated with these qualities!”
