In what must be the strangest career move of either artist, PSY has teamed up with rap god Snoop Dogg on his latest single, 'Hangover', and it's crazier than you'd expect.
South Korea's patron saint of insanity is at it again; PSY's collaboration with Snoop Dogg is equal parts catchy, annoying, and successful, with the music video having already racked up 19,400,000 hits on YouTube despite being released just on June 8.
While it's obvious the video's main drawcard is the inclusion of Snoop, at times the video feels as though it should've been billed 'Snoop Dogg feat. PSY', seeing as how the rapper was given the 'lion's' share (sorry, I had to) of the vocals. Despite his minimal lines, however, PSY is on screen long enough to give us the kind of visual gags we've come to expect from him, although for the most part he just sits quietly eating noodles while Snoop does all the heavy lifting.
And Snoop isn't the only cameo in this clip; fans of Kpop will notice appearances by superstars CL and G-Dragon, the latter doing an awkward little jig in the karaoke scene.
G-Dragon is normally a lot more suave than this...
But the most surprising thing is, the 'Hangover' music video isn't completely random or pointless. Astute watchers who know a thing or two about Korean culture will appreciate some of the easter eggs hidden in the clip. For example, that scene where PSY and Snoop do a shot together? When they go to “cheers” their shot glasses, PSY crosses a hand across his torso – a sign of respect when you're drinking with a superior figure.
