Prospect Of Terror At Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran Concerts Forces Backpack Ban

Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard started Scene Magazine in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr magazine to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative for the title in the mid-naughties. He's judged more battle of the bands than he cares to remember and proud of the myriad media partnerships the company has earned across the music, arts and comedy sectors. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford Comma – way too much fun at parties.

Suncorp Stadium has banned backpacks from the upcoming Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift concerts.

In a social media post today, Suncorp advised "In the interests of everyone’s safety, backpacks or bags bigger than A3 size (30cm x 40cm) will be banned from Suncorp Stadium for the upcoming Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift concerts".

While the threat of a terror attack was not specifically mentioned, few would believe the initiative — and its timing — is a result of anything other than reducing the prospect of a bomb being brought into the stadium.

The announcement in full reads:

In the interests of everyone’s safety, backpacks or bags bigger than A3 size (30cm x 40cm) will be banned from Suncorp Stadium for the upcoming Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift concerts.

Even smaller bags will be searched so we ask fans to help us by avoiding bringing bags as they will cause delays at the gates. These measures are part of the overall assessment of security arrangements we have conducted in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service and concert promoters.
