Promiseland Festival 2023 Line-up

Lauryn Hill headlines 2023 Promiseland Festival.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A celebration of Afrobeats, reggae, R&B and amapiano music, Promiseland Festival returns to the Gold Coast in 2023 (30 Sep-1 Oct) headlined by American rapper Lauryn Hill.

2023 marks the 25th anniversary of Hill's seminal solo album 'The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill', which won five Grammy Awards including being the first hip hop album to win the Album Of The Year category and has been cited by countless R&B and hip hop artists as an influential release.

American-born Nigerian singer-songwriter star Davido ('Fall', 'High' and 'Hayya Hayya (Better Together)') will make his Australian debut at Promiseland alongside another Nigerian artist, Tems (who has collaborated with Future, Drake and Wizkid).

New Zealand reggae and roots icons L.A.B. return to the Promiseland stage bringing all their hits including 'In The Air', 'Controller', 'Yes I Do' and 'Mr Reggae'.

The Promiseland team also have a couple of secret international acts they'll announce at a later date; the only hints they're offering is that it's one of New Zealand’s biggest acts as well as a globally-renowned R&B act.

The rest of the line-up also features Fiji, House Of Shem, Koffee, Katchafire, Fireboy DML, Ayra Star, Uncle Waffles, Peter Andre and many more.

"My partners Bernard Kumar, Andy Tuumaga and I had been working on the concept of a specialist festival to cater to Afrobeats, Amapiano, Reggae and R&B for some years, but our first attempts had to be shelved in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic," festival spokesperson Emal Naim, of FestCo Events, says.

"We have all been deeply involved in the music sector as promoters, agents and international touring specialists for many years and knew that an event such as Promiseland was badly needed in Australia.

"Finally, after several false starts and cancellations, we managed to successfully stage the inaugural festival in October last year. We are now keen to establish Promiseland as a regular event on the Australian music calendar."

Promiseland Festival takes place at Doug Jennings Park (Gold Coast) 30 September and 1 October.

Edit 19th March, 2024:
scenestr is advised Mr Tuumaga is no longer a partner of the festival.
