I (don't) wanna be your lover.
Prince — yes, THE Prince — has helped a couple break up on US talk show 'The Arsenio Hall Show'.
During an 'agony uncle' skit, Hall asked people to come forward with their problems. An audience member named Steven stepped up and explained that he had recently moved from Portland to Los Angeles, and that his girlfriend — who stayed behind in Portland — was hanging out with her ex-boyfriend while he was out of town.
According to Steven, the couple's first date was at a Prince concert, therefore: "We started with Prince, we should end with Prince."
Prince then got Steven's girlfriend, Keegan, on the line. Because, sure, why not? The following exchange ensued:
Keegan: "Steven is fabulous and I adore him. But Steven moved to LA, and I've been hanging out with my ex and trying to figure out what's up."
Prince: "Listen, Steven's a good guy, but I have a message for you, from him."
Keegan: "Should I be nervous?"
Prince: "No, no, it's a good message. In this relationship, things are much harder than in the single world. Keegan, in this life, you're on your own. Keegan, this is what it sounds like when Steven breaks up with you."
Keegan was speechless for a moment, before responding: "I wanna be sad, but also if YOU'RE breaking up with me, I can't be that sad."
Taking the break-up remarkably well, Keegan then asked Prince: "Are you perhaps available?" (Sadly, Prince chuckled and told her he wasn't.)
The whole thing pretty much had to be a set-up, but that doesn't really make it any less funny, does it?
The real joke, of course, is that Arsenio Hall has a talk show in 2014.
