The world has lost another icon with the death of Prince Rogers Nelson, the artist known as Prince.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” Prince's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in statement.

TMZ was the first to report the death.

The singer was found Thursday morning local time at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnestoa.

Prince had been in poor health recently, with the singer hospitalised after his private jet was forced to make an emergency landing on 15 April. A representative at the time said he had the flu.

With a discography of 39 studio albums, Prince is arguably best known for 'Purple Rain'.
