A folk-rock artist based in Naarm/ Melbourne, singer-songwriter Yours, Georgina has teased another song from her forthcoming EP 'Noonlight', the rustic yet impassioned 'Galvanic'.
The moniker of Georgie Currie (who originally lived in Albury where she was a co-vocalist of ten-piece folk band The Northern Folk), Yours, Georgina's lyrics contemplate feelings associated with yearning, heartache and growing pains through both a hyper-personal and universal truth lens, supported by soundscapes similar to Marlon Williams, Liz Stringer and Angie McMahon.Thematically, 'Galvanic' paints a vivid picture of hell hath no fury like a woman scorned as Georgie channels her inner Dolly Parton.
Raw, emotive, brooding cinematic rock that weaves in alt. country tones (twangy guitar melded to subtle, delicate drumming) the song tells the simmering tale of a lover scorned, the anger oozing out with a controlled frenzy before pooling into a well of hurt and fragility.
"For me this song is in some ways an homage to the many greats of country music that embodied 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' – like Shania Twain and Dolly Parton," shares Georgie.
"While I don't consider myself a country artist, I'm a big fan of the genre and love to borrow elements of it both in my vocal delivery and certain instrumentation choices."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (15 May), scenestr is delighted to premiere the 'Galvanic' music video. Enjoy.
Filmed in the Kiewa Valley region on the lands of the Dhudhuroa, Waywurru and Jaithmathang peoples, the video portrays Georgie taking destructive action, the bottled rage fuelling a spur-of-the-moment deed.
"The house that I arrive at and experience the flashback is the home of my very good friends Jack and Lisa – and I am happy to say the olive tree I destroy in the video is steadily regrowing in their garden."
'Galvanic' follows Your, Georgina's 2023 single 'We Hardly Speak At All', with both songs to feature on the six-track EP 'Noonlight' (to be released 28 June) that Georgie details reckons with acts of deceit – in love, intimacy and one's self – and finally closes with a joyful and courageous hope for something more honest.
Yours, Georgina and her band launch the 'Noonlight' EP at The Catfish (Melbourne) 19 July and Hothouse Theatre (Albury) 27 July.
