Ahead of the release tomorrow (8 May) of their catchy new single 'Life's A Killer', Brisbane DIY alt-rock three-piece band Yeti Ghetto have shared with scenestr the song's accompanying video - directed by Californian experimental animator Rachel Seropian.
Playful and just a little eccentric, 'Life’s A Killer' is filled with hook-laden vocals that revel in relatable lyricism with cheeky lo-fi guitar riffs.
The story behind the idea for the video clip is also an interesting read. "There are a lot of benefits to recording your songs in your own bedroom – it’s very comfy," begins the band's frontman Scott Luderman.
"You can stay in your PJs, eat whatever is in your fridge, coffee is super accessible, you have time to experiment and get the sounds you want.
"No one can kick you out and say ‘Okay, that’s enough for today’. So yeah, you just allow yourself to get completely lost in it, and it’s really fun.
"But as I was recording ‘Life’s A Killer’, I had this weird moment where I realised just how immersed I was in all the music making, and how unaware I was of absolutely anything else, and how that can actually be pretty dangerous.
"One day, I was sitting up in my room: coffee, PJs on, headphones on, the whole thing and I was just listening back to some guitar parts and sort of mucking about with some lyrics.
"Then, I thought I could hear someone knocking on my door, but I wasn’t sure... so whatever, I more or less ignored it. Then, yeah, I could hear it, there was this loud banging on my door. This is going to sound silly, but the knocking sounded really official and somewhat urgent.
"So I run downstairs in my whole ‘not fit for public consumption’ look, thinking ‘oh man, what’s all this about?’, open the door, and there must have been five firefighters from the London Fire Brigade, all in uniform, with their fire truck flashing away in my street.
"Then one of the firemen asks, ‘Excuse me mate, is your back garden on fire?’, and I’m sort of feeling a bit confused, so I’m like ‘No, I don’t think so?’ and he’s like ‘Mind if we take a look?’.
"Then the fire brigade comes cruising through my house, which is a pretty chaotic mess, and straight through to my back garden. And yeah, turns out my garden is on fire, my fence is on fire, this one really grumpy neighbour I had is yelling about it. The whole situation was pretty whacky.
"But yeah, anyway the brigade put the fire out, no grumpy neighbours were harmed, and I went back to my bedroom with an interesting idea for a music video for the song I had been working on."
