Premiere: Watch Venice Queens New Music Video 'Punchdrunk'

'Punchdrunk' is the new single from Adelaide indie rockers Venice Queens.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Adelaide indie rockers Venice Queens are about to head out on a four-date tour that takes in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast before a home-town show next month.

They'll be promoting their infectiously sunny new single, 'Punchdrunk', which glistens with cruisy vibes and will tickle the fancy of those who enjoy Bootleg Rascal and The Creases.

"We're so excited to share 'Punchdrunk' with the world," the band says. "It's been a long time coming and it's one we really felt we couldn't rush.

"It's been awesome having the opportunity to get both Simon (Kither) and Adrian's (Breakspear, who has worked with Gang Of Youths, Pharrell Williams) input and really achieve our live sound in the studio."

Venice Queens have worked with animator Harry Nelli for an accompanying music clip for 'Punchdrunk', which scenestr is stoked to premiere today.

The '80s styled 8-bit video game treatment is classic and features the band meeting at their HQ after their equipment is stolen. The Duke Nukem, Super Mario-inspired levels sees each band member hunting down the 'monster' who stole their stuff.

"Harry Nelli animated and illustrated the video over the course of the last year or so," the bands says.

"Harry built each element of the video from scratch. In actual fact, we had very little to do with it at all. All credit goes to him, including the way he made it very personal to all of us and fit it with the summer theme of the song."

The idea for the 8-bit video treatment has been in the works for quite some time. "I think late in 2018 someone suggested 'a video game themed music video would be cool'; before we knew it Harry had whipped up the original intro that the rest of the video was built around. It just so happened that the song fit the summery, fun game vibe that the video gave off."
