Premiere: Watch Tijuana Cartel's New Music Video 'Ishtar'

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Released last month, 'Ishtar' is the first new song from Gold Coast exotic beat merchants Tijuana Cartel in two years.

And now the guys have dropped a particularly psychedelic, trippy video to accompany the release that you can watch for the first time today. "We really wanted the clip and the track to feel like they were a part of each other," Paul George says.

"We've been toying with animation and film more and more and are looking at extending the whole thing and making a short film or two."

With lavish servings of heavy bass and a haunting, eastern guitar lick that will earworm itself into your day, 'Ishtar' is the first track to come from a limited-edition vinyl release scheduled for early October. "We went back to our roots with this track; it features more guitar riffs, heavier bass and a heavy dance feel overall. We just wanted to create something that was unique to Tijuana Cartel.

"This track really embodies the essence of what we do as producers that sets us apart. Essentially we’re always seeking to create the ultimate live experience for our audience and this one sits perfectly in that space."

Ever eager to collaborate, this time Tijuana Cartel appear to have reached a little further in their quest for originality. "'Ishtar' was produced during a long night while visited by Anunnaki aliens, in our studio in Labrador on the Gold Coast.

"Much to our delight the alien life forms brought great sample packs and vintage synths with them. They talked animatedly of the last time they visited Earth exactly 3,000 years ago and marvelled at how much the music here has changed."
