Premiere: Watch The Shadow Ministers' New Music Video 'My Desire'

The Shadow Ministers are a garage rock band based in Adelaide.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

If you require rock & roll that ignites with groove-licious riffs, a hip-swaying beat and faux-snarly attitude, then welcome to the word of Adelaide underground rockers The Shadow Ministers.

What started life as an impromptu lockdown collaboration between Paris Proud and Jason Mannix has since morphed into a fully-fledged rock & roll beast that has released three singles so far including their most recent, The Morning After Girls-flavoured 'She's Gonna Wreck My Life'.

Now comprised as a five-piece band, The Shadow Ministers are ready to showcase another chapter from their debut album 'Low Noise / High Output' that's coming in early 2023.

Oasis meets Lynyrd Skynyrd with the DNA of AC/DC, 'My Desire' has a low-slung swagger as its chunky, raw, powerful, rugged, bluesy-rock takes over.

The groove is luscious as it wraps its tentacles around your earlobes with a mesmerising mash of northern soul married to '90s Britpop. Then a single cowbell enters the frame before a blistering-intense guitar riff takes over the soundscape before those laconic, cheeky vocals comes back demanding to "get highhhh, make me high. . . 'cause it's my desire!".

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (7 December), scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'My Desire' music video today. Enjoy.

"I was living in a rehearsal room surrounded by all my junk," begins Jason, discussing the birth of 'My Desire', "was feeling a little bit inspired as I had a pretty girl on my mind at the time, so I just turned everything up real loud and that blues-based riff came out.

"It felt cool so I set the click track to 98bpm and hit record. It took about 15 minutes to record the bulk of the song.

"Like the rest of the album, it's a couple of cheap mics opened up loud and letting everything bounce off the wall and just crash into each other; it's a lot of fun doing it that way. It's our easiest song to play live; it only has 3 chords."
