Two years removed since their last release of new music, Victorian band The Settlement are back with the blistering good single 'Wasted'.
Known for their alt-folk, rock sound, the five-piece (who are split between Melbourne and regional Victoria) have had to navigate the past 18 months sans the vast majority of their live opportunities.Although a major hinderance, it has allowed The Settlement to tinker with their creative direction alongside fostering a new collection of songs heralded by 'Wasted'. "On a whole we feel very good about the direction our music is heading," the band says.
"We did a bit of flipping and reversing over the last 12 months, which in the end landed us creatively well. Very happy to finally be releasing new tunes."
'Wasted' is a brooding, bruised, evocative slice of alternative rock, its chuggin' bassline and searing strings (in the background) elevating the emotional intensity many listeners will instantly connect with.
With 'Wasted' released tomorrow (19 August), scenestr is amped to premiere the song's music video, which was directed by videographer Gareth Harrison (Freya Josephine Hollick) and filmed around The Settlement's home town.
"We've been seeing Gareth's work of late and really dig it," band member Adrian Calvano says.
"There's also an old Ballarat connection with our drummer so we thought we would hit [Gareth] up and give him full reigns on writing/ directing/ editing a film clip for 'Wasted'.
"It was shot in a day in the band's birth town of Hamilton, Victoria. For us, Gareth nailed a beautifully honest portrayal of heartache and internal reflection."
