Melbourne-based grunge band The Ians return with a new release, the infectious, early Foo Fighters-sounding 'Gold Teeth'.
Recorded with Greg Rietwyk (Press Club) at The Aviary, in Melbourne, 'Gold Teeth' 'signals the start of a new era for the band both musically and visually' according to the band's press release.
"I wrote 'Gold Teeth' one afternoon on an acoustic guitar while watching 'South Park' season 17," singer-guitarist Nic says.
"I don't know how exactly, but I feel like the high-pitched voices and dick jokes are in the song forever now lmao."
Originally from Canberra and regional New South Wales, friends Nic, Matt (bass) and Sean (drums) moved to Melbourne in early 2017 chasing a fresh musical start and The Ians were born. "We don't really try to accomplish anything per se when we make music - just make good music," Nic says.
"The creativity part is actually usually a pretty laid-back process. As long as we like it and the fans like it, it don't matter."
To accompany the release today of 'Gold Teeth', scenestr is stoked to be able to premiere the song's music video - the grainy footage makes you believe you've found a wormhole to the early '90s.
Next stop for The Ians is a four-date east-coast tour with two shows in Melbourne as well as dates in Canberra and Sydney. As for the mid-term future of the band, Sean says to expect more fresh material from The Ians.
"We'll hopefully be recording some more songs at the start of next year and put a five-song EP or maybe even a full-length album together in the near future."
