Premiere: Watch Taitu'uga's New Music Video 'Positive Thinking'

Taitu'uga is a Brisbane-Samoan artist.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Brisbane-Samoan artist Taitu'uga continues his journey embracing his own culture and heritage with the release of his second single, 'Positive Thinking'.

A musician and beat-boxer formerly known as MC Kitch, with close to 20 years experience Taitu'uga is also a Talking High Chief (Tulafale alii) for his Samoan village, Sapunaoa falealili.

Taitu'uga is using the power of music and culture to inspire others to undertake their own trips of discovery, and 'Positive Thinking' is the next step in that process.

Dubby, lush reggae beats flow smoothly across an electronic bedrock of trippy notes and conscious-expanding tones.

Taitu'uga maintains the mystical rhythm with earthy, embracing vocals as he rap-sings in a mix of English and Samoan, propelling messages of joy and happiness as well as a love for culture and language.

Add a spacious yet electrified harmonica splashed in sporadically, and 'Positive Thinking' is a journey of psychology, philosophy and mythological themes.

Written to inspire and reenergise when life's trials and tribulations interfere, Taitu'uga wants 'Positive Thinking' to be a vehicle to remember the power of the mind, the power of visualisation.

"Incorporating the concept of positive thinking in a setting that embraces the power of positive energy can greatly influence your daily experiences, overall well-being, and future prospects," shares Taitu'uga.

"Surrounding yourself with positive vibrations through music, supportive friends, and a conducive environment can profoundly transform your perspective and enhance your emotional state.

"In the traditional context of Samoa, the emphasis was placed on nurturing the mind, spirit, and body. I believe that positive thinking revolves around altering your perception and harmonising with uplifting vibes."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Positive Thinking' music video today. Enjoy.

"In the second verse," continues Tai, "I made a deliberate effort to infuse traditional language and incorporate Samoan proverbs, spoken in the esteemed Matai language.

"This was done with the intention of emphasising the significance of language and its profound impact. By weaving these linguistic elements into the verse, I aimed to highlight the cultural richness and convey a deeper message that resonates with the wisdom passed down through generations."

When it came time to film the song's video clip, the location proved difficult to lock in. Luckily Tai has an accommodating family.

"The process of recording the film clip turned out to be quite amusing, mainly because we didn't have a suitable location available on short notice.

"However, through convincing my partner, we managed to transform my living room into a makeshift black studio. It became even more delightful when we involved my little son Esau, who eagerly took on the role of assistant in the light management team."

Taitu'uga showcases at 2023 BIGSOUND in Brisbane, which takes place 5-8 September.
