WA rockers Sky Cave aren't afraid to have difficult conversations – and they're shining a light on the dangers of abandoning your mental health, in new single 'Fall’.
'Fall' explores hope in the face of darkness, pairing driving percussion and a swagger-laden groove with piercingly personal lyricism.
“This song is about being there for each other through chaotic times. It was based around the theme of the feeling individuals can experience when the world and their surroundings become too much for them to handle,” the band says.
“Sometimes all it can take is one person’s support to change your whole mindset.”
When it comes to the band's sound, Oliver Quinlan, Lachlan McRobert and Elijah Crouch pull influence from left and right – Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin. . . All the way to Ocean Alley, Middle Kids, and Wolfmother.
“Sky Cave is a collective idea, formed from equal parts of all the brains involved – which is a process that has been a foundation since the band started,” lead guitarist Lachlan McRobert says. “I love the fact that we have this kinda blues, psychedelic, rock, metal, pop sandwich – I really wouldn’t have it any other way.”
scenestr is super keen to be premiering the powerful music video for Sky Cave's 'Fall', today. Enjoy.
The video, created by Joseph Varley (DarkSpiritPhotography) and starring Imogen Rose Flint, shows the internal struggles of a woman just trying to make it through the day, using slow motion, striking imagery, and the concept of the darkness trying to take hold. It's a gripping, compelling extension of the song's lyrics, which feature statements like "I don't know what to believe anymore / I'm breaking under the strain".
"Mental health is a subject close to all of our hearts at SC," the band says of the song and video. "We strongly believe that it’s okay to not be okay. If you are struggling with mental health, don’t be afraid to reach out and speak up. Remember, you are loved."
"This release symbolises a new era of Sky Cave. Quinners, Elijah and I have been working our asses off this year to get the formula just right," Lachlan says. "We’ve found our rhythm in the process of writing this song both on and off the stage, both in and out of the recording studio and most importantly, we’ve found ourselves on the same page when it comes to where Sky Cave is going and what it is to us.
"Get ready to witness something special at Mojo’s. We can’t wait to show you."
Sky Cave launch 'Fall' at Mojo's Bar (Fremantle) 11 August.
