Premiere: Watch Sea Mouse's New Music Video 'Gearbox'

Sea Mouse are a blues-rock band from New Zealand.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Wellington blues trio Sea Mouse are expanding their sonic palette with their most recent single, 'Gearbox', highlighting the band's blazin' rock & roll chops.

A guzzling, pounding, fuzzy rock & roll riff begins the track's high-octane ride as the Deep Purple-, Led Zeppelin-flavoured vocals come careening into focus.

Fitting somewhere between Wolfmother, The Datsuns and Jet this is bluesy rock & roll both your grandfather and older brother will dig.

The song also features a sizzling blues guitar solo that answers the question: imagine what Chuck Berry would sound like if he was the lead guitarist of Led Zeppelin.

"We wrote the song a few years back while I was doing repairs to the gearbox on my truck," frontman Seamus Johnson explains.

"My girlfriend was getting frustrated with me 'cause I wasn't texting her back due to my hands being covered in grease and gearbox oil.

"I was also just being occupied by a reasonably difficult and complex task. . . and I guess gearbox is also a reference to hitting the nose beers too."

Ahead of the song's music video being released, scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Gearbox' clip. Enjoy.

Sea Mouse's career highlights include being the recipient of the NZ On Air funding, performing with NZ legendary supergroup Fly My Pretties and playing the TUKI Festival.
