Brisbane-based singer-songwriter, Saraima Navara's debut music video is titled 'Map'.
An experienced touring musician with six-time Queensland Music Award winning artist Emily Wurramara, 2020 has seen Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Saraima Navara commence her own solo career.
Also a member of female vocal ensemble Verandah ChiX, Saraima has performed traditional and contemporary songs in Torres Strait Island and Aboriginal languages, as well as Tolai, Bislama, French, and English.
After years of quietly writing her own music in the background and forming her own sound, Saraima has released two songs so far: 'Map' and 'Kaum Leva Tagu'.
With the gentle plucking of an acoustic guitar and Saraima's piercing vocals, 'Map' builds into an emotion-driven bluesy ballad that was written and released as part of Big Sky Girls Volume 2 compilation.
"'Map' was released as part of Big Sky Girls programme. As part of the programme we were given the opportunity to do a ten-week songwriting course through I Heart Songwriting Club," Saraima says.
"Each week we were given a new challenge and a word that inspired us to write; in week seven our word was 'map'. The word reminded me of how sometimes you can get lost in a relationship and find it difficult to find your way back and so 'Map' was created."
Supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, Saraima has created her very first music video which scenestr is stoked to premiere today. Enjoy.
Saraima plays the 2020 QUBE Effect Awards (live-streamed) at Brisbane Powerhouse 2 October and BEMAC Live (Brisbane) 20 November.
