OGs of Australian hip hop, Resin Dogs are back with a new album, 'Notorious D.O.G.', their first in a decade.
To satiate the slobbering appetite of loyal Dogs' followers, DJ Katch and Dave Atkins have let off the leash a bangin' summer anthem ready for 2019.
'Activate The Soul' features veteran Melbourne emcee Mantra and is lifted direct from the 'Notorious D.O.G.' record, which will be released 23 November.
"The new record is us songwriting and collaborating with some new and old friends," Katch told us in a recent interview - stay tuned for the complete Q&A, which will be published digitally soon.
"We had been sitting on this record for a few years, and finally thought now is a good time to release the projects.
"Like all artists, we had doubts about music, where we were heading. It tells some stories of what we went through. We had some lifestyle changes along the way.
"We finally decided that the world is ready to hear what us Dogs have been up to." Amen to that Dave and Katch.
Today, Resin Dogs have shared an exclusive video of 'Activate The Soul' with scenestr to premiere.
The track features smouldering drums, luscious keys, sloth-like bass, Katch dominating the turntables and vintage samples that transport you to an Oriental oasis. Then Mantra bounds in, owning the mic, spitting flows with crystal clarity, sharing life gospel with his lyrics.
"We had the pleasure of Mantra joining us at our show at The Triffid in Brisbane [recently]," Katch says, "and [we] took the opportunity to cut a music video.
"As we have both been super busy with various projects it was the perfect time to get together and shoot."
And lastly, when can we expect Resin Dogs on stages across Australia? "Hopefully in the new year, just sorting those details now. We are open to playing festivals - hint, hint!"
