Three years in the making, co-founder and label manager of Big Village Records, Sydney's Rapaport has just released his second solo album, 'Village Idiot'.
The record features a number of notable producers such as Ribongia ('What I Got'), Arctic ('FAM'), Kid Fiction ('Lost In The Frequency') and Joelistics ('Don't Sweat It').
Alongside an upcoming tour with Butterfingers (click here for dates), Rapaport has been working on a new series of videos where he reinterprets tracks from 'Village Idiot' in a live setting.
The first video is 'Lost In The Frequency', which scenestr is proud to premiere today.
"'Lost In The Frequency' is the fourth track from my new album 'Village Idiot'," Rapaport says. "It's been a long time in the making, but I'm stoked to have it out finally. This song is probably one of the darker moments of the album.
"I wanted to try and pull people into that anxious and stressed out headspace that I get lost in and then talk my way out of it and bring the listener with me along the journey."
Rapaport is the creator and director of the pioneering hip hop, live art game show Sketch The Rhyme and is a founding member of boom bap trio Loose Change.
"This is the first video in a series of live videos I am working on where I am reinterpreting the songs on the album in a live context," continues Rapaport.
"I've been playing most of the songs live with drummer Finn Ryan and me on guitar with some other elements on backing track, and I just wanted to experiment with a full band.
"For 'Lost In The Frequency' I got together with Josh Ahearn on bass and Daniel Pliner on keys, and we learnt the song from the recording and also tried to do a new version. We also had Kid Fiction, who produced the song, playing samples and effects and helping with the arrangement.
"As someone who has played in live bands as an MC and a guitarist over the years, I really love playing with a live band; the sense of freedom and expression that it allows. I'm really stoked with the recording we did and can't wait to do some more live videos and shows in the future.
"Thanks to Tom Cooper who recorded the sound and Anastas Martin who filmed it, and Tempe Jets where it was recorded."
