Racka Chachi is a label and artist collective from Perth, consisting of rappers, singers, producers and musicians.
Built to be a platform for a group of friends with a common goal to express themselves, the eight-member Racka Chachi collective create hip hop music with a broad range of influences from funk, soul and R&B.With an ethos to do it for yourself, do it now and to do it with your friends, Racka Chachi's newest release is the single 'No Island' that thematically interrogates the loss of self which occurs from experiences of conflict and trauma.
"Writing 'No Island' was a true show of our collaborative environment at work," Levi James says. "We had the beat and verses written for a few months, but were struggling to pull all the pieces together.
"As a group, we did several workshops where we wrote the hook together. We went from piecing together the melody to writing all the lyrics together.
"We noticed the common threads in all of the verses, which touched on isolation and loss and brought them together with a contrasting hook which was more hopeful in nature."
scenestr is stoked to premiere the music video for 'No Island' today. Enjoy.
"It might sound obvious, but shooting in the Lancelin sand dunes brought an abundance of sand," Levi says.
"This created a number of challenges for our good friend and director Austy, whose camera gear may or may not have been ruined by sand.
"We are all still finding sand in our pockets and shoes from that day. No more videos in sand."
Racka Chachi will host a 'secret show' in Perth to send off this chaotic year on 27 December with all proceeds being donated to Ruah Community Services; a WA not-for-profit organisation who specialise in supporting people and families through housing and homelessness, domestic violence and mental health.
