A West Coast rock band who are quickly rising to national prominence, Pot Plant House Party follow their two previous 2021 singles ('Time Machine' and 'Late Night Science Fiction') with 'Second To Rest'.
Soaring melodies, a crashing rhythm section and lead guitar that twinkles from introspective noodling to full-on attack mode that'll leave your speakers rumbling long after the swells have dissipated, Pot Plant House Party have delivered a stylish slice of alternative rock that bristles in intensity. It's like a melting pot of sounds gleaned from the likes of Violent Soho, Luca Brasi, Tired Lion, Sly Withers and The Smith Street Band.
"'Second To Rest' was written among a bunch of other tracks at the start of this year," begins the band. "We recorded the drums for it not long after, but sat on the rest of recording until halfway through the year.
"Having that length of time away from the track allowed each member to formulate their own ideas of how it should sound.
"When we eventually came back to it, we chipped away bit by bit to finish off the recording of it and it sounded completely different from the original demo."
With the song released today, scenestr is amped to premiere the 'Second To Rest' music video. Enjoy.
When it came time to storyboard the creative direction of the music video, the band collaborated with Cooper Gordan (Gordonco Visuals) at Friday Studios in West Perth. "We used this opportunity to get all dressed up in a big warehouse. An ode to '70s fashion.
"We wanted to match the mood of the song and lean into a nice aesthetic with the spotlights, the first time we've ever taken ourselves semi-seriously and not just ran around town in ghillie suits.
"The video concept and shoot was whipped up super quick and over a cold night's shoot. Cooper and Ashleigh at Gordonco Visuals did a great job of the whole shoot so shoutout to them."
A national tour had been in the works too, with the lads eager to get across to the east coast, but the COVID troll has negated those plans, the band resigned to playing a couple of local shows instead.
"We initially had a full Australian tour booked for this single throughout September, but alas, COVID had other plans.
"Fortunately for us, being based in Perth we're lucky enough to still comfortably play shows throughout WA. So we're so happy to be helping local Perth venue The Sewing Room celebrate their fourth birthday with so many bands throughout the whole day.
"The fact we get to headline is even more of an honour, and the perfect way to send off 'Second To Rest'."
