Premiere: Watch Pipin's New Music Video 'Nothing To Prove, Just Wanna Groove'

Pipin is an indie pop singer-songwriter from Brisbane.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A zesty, vibrant, indie pop track released in January, Pipin's 'Nothing To Prove, Just Wanna Groove' has already clocked up 30k streams on Spotify.

The Brisbane singer-songwriter has again teamed with Thomas Calder (Daggy Man, The Trouble With Templeton) to create a stylish and sophisticated music video for the song that hearts moody '80s feels with big hair and lots of intense facial expressions from Pipin.

"This clip was directed, shot and edited by Thomas at The Photo Studio in Brisbane. Thomas is such a creative mastermind and it's fascinating to watch him work," Pipin says.

"As with our previous clips ('Tunnel Vision', 'Breathing Love' and 'Maybe It's Me'), we went in with not too much of a plan and just saw what magic we could make.

"We knew stylistically that we wanted it to have an '80s vibe, fitting in with the song and with the artwork (also created by Thomas)."

Ahead of the its release tomorrow (23 March), scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Nothing To Prove, Just Wanna Groove' music video today. Enjoy.

"Thomas is absolutely bananas with the filming and editing process," adds Pipin. "We filmed the whole thing in under six hours on a Monday and by Saturday he'd sent me the edit that we are releasing. So grateful for his magical brain."

The music video also enlists the help of a bunch of Pipin's mates.

"It was a really special to have my beautiful friends (Rebecca Schoch, Jackson Frauenfelder, Hugh Middleton, Brigette Lawrence, Maia Efstathis, Nikki Charles and Ruby Star) in this clip as it's the first time we've included other people, besides the time Nina Magnani (our wonderful hair and make-up artist who has worked on all the clips) featured in the end of 'Breathing Love'.

"We really wanted  the juxtaposition of having a lot of still bodies set in darkness, next to my movement and animated facial expressions which are cast in light."

After support slots for the likes of Ball Park Music and Hatchie as well as festival appearances at Yonder Festival, Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Valley Fiesta, Pipin continues to build her profile both locally and nationally.

"It's a really beautiful experience putting out a song and having people connect with it and then putting out a video for it a few months later and being able to relive the joy of releasing it again.

"It allows you to have a different form of connection with the art, not just sonically but also visually."

Pipin plays The Bearded Lady (Brisbane) 25 March.
