Pipin is the moniker of Brisbane artist Bec Hoole.
A bright, spacious, hopeful, fun, and flirty serving of indie pop that sounds instantly modern but also has a nostalgic '90s shoegaze charm, Pipin's newest single 'Breathing Love' will leave you with the warm and fuzzy feels.
The project of Brisbane singer-songwriter Bec Hoole, Pipin explores themes related to the transition into adulthood: attention economy, disappointment, hope, heartbreak and love.
"'Breathing Love' is about being filled with positive emotions, energy and love and wanting to share that with others," Pipin says, "but not being sure if it's going to be reciprocated.
"The last line of the chorus reads 'but are you gonna zap me?' – it's that feeling of wondering whether you're putting all that energy into people and relationships in your life only to have that love 'zapped' from you instead of given back."
The second single to feature on her EP 'Your Time Is Your Own' (released tomorrow), Pipin collaborated with Thomas Calder and Nina Magnani to create a music video for 'Breathing Love'. "Working with Thomas Calder and Nina Magnani is an absolute dream," Pipin says.
"We had such a joyful day of creative madness running through all these different thoughts and ideas without holding on to any particular outcome. I just knew it was going to be awesome and I am so proud of the piece of work we have produced."
scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'Breathing Love' music video today. Enjoy.
"A lot of the video is a series of photographs shot in quick succession," Bec adds. "We took inspiration from new wave French films and the styling/ make-up of icons Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy.
"Thomas collated everything together and decorated it all with chaotic, yet thoughtful animation that moves seamlessly with the music. It's my crafted collage dream in video format."
Pipin launches the 'Your Time Is Your Own' EP at Black Bear Lodge (Brisbane) on 3 June.
