A gorgeous, melodic pop-rock number drenched in indie guitars and drums, Oly Sherman returns with 'In The Summer' – his latest single from new album 'Land Of All Pretend' (out 11 June).
Although it has an upbeat vibe that'll easily worm itself inside your head, the track comes from a bittersweet place with Oly lamenting a failed romance but wanting to leave a positive imprint on the memories shared together ("Find me in the summer / I hope you'll be fine").With a sound reminiscent of the likes of Boy & Bear, Matt Corby, Passenger, and Cloud Control, 'In The Summer' finds Oly focusing on his rootsy core.
"Within the time of its construction, I was going through a pretty rough breakup," Oly shares. "I wrote this song as an acceptance that some things just don't work between two people.
"Despite this, I wanted to write a song which showed kindness, respect, and an admiration of the times two people can spend together within their lives."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'In The Summer' music video today. Enjoy.
The video contrasts beautfiully against the brightness embodied in the single; we find Oly in a sandy, desolate landscape (think Dune) at dusk digging holes, but with the treatment of the timeline in reverse.
Sherman worked with director Ben Develin out in Anna Bay to bring his ideas to life. "Probably one of the coolest videos I've been involved in," enthuses Oly.
"The crew and I travelled about two hours out of Sydney towards these sand dunes (which to be honest, I never knew existed).
"Our concept was to dig a lot of holes and depict the song as a canvas of emotional distress. The day itself ended up being really fun and it's a video I'm super, super proud of."
