Stylish, angular rock & roll that's dipped in distortion and propelled by an urgent rhythm that leaks into the subject matter of society's continued obsession with materialistic items, Sydney's Mesmeriser newest single 'SOLD!' is a punchy ride destined for repeat listens.
The garage rock vibes drip from every pore of 'SOLD!', the influences of The Strokes and Interpol clearly evident as the song's mantra 'I need it, I want it, I want it, I need it' lodges itself in your head, the earworm setting up shop in your frontal lobe."The chorus 'for this life, going once, going twice, SOLD!' evokes the ideas of an auction for your attention, your money and ultimately your soul," Mesmeriser says.
"We wanted to marry the music and the sharp vocals with the themes to really hit home."
The title track from the band's forthcoming EP (out 20 April), with 'SOLD!' released today, scenestr is pumped to premiere the song's music video. Enjoy.
"The 'SOLD!' clip turned out better than we could ever have imagined," the trio says. "In the EP's universe, 'SOLD!' is the final part of the corporate drone's story.
"The parent company Brokers Of Sin LLC is going into liquidation and we toyed with the idea of the corporate drones themselves going into liquidation themselves.
"Our immensely talented friend Maya Luana brought it all to life and we had a blast turning ourselves into piles of mush and lighting the set ablaze."
Mesmeriser launch the 'SOLD!' EP at Waywards (Sydney) 24 April.
