Dark indie rockers, Mecha Mecha's newest release is the epic 'Grease The Hinges Part 1', a track that traverses art rock, prog rock and gothic elements to create an expansive soundscape.
It's like a fusion of Queen and Muse with a side dish of Royal Blood. Yet it still sounds uniquely Mecha Mecha, a guide to where the band is headed with their own artistic output. The Brisbane trio – brothers Angelo (drums) and Walter (various instruments and singer) plus Isaac Vincent (violin, harmonies) – have even added a mid-song breakdown which affixes a hint of rock opera to proceedings, ramping up the emotive feels to monumental portions. Freddie would be proud lads!
"I think this song is the same age as the band; it's a lovely amalgamation of all the contributions of previous band and team members," Walter says. "The credits list for the number of people involved in working on this track I think is literally 20 names long.
"(Our producer) Tyson did some amazing synth work, and Isaac's solo at the end is just totally unhinged, he really went for it," adds Walter.
After releasing the song earlier this month, scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Grease The Hinges Part 1' music video today. Enjoy.
"We never wanted to be one of those bands who has 'part one' and 'part two' versions of songs, because we're not writing prog, but this just sort of happened," adds Angelo about the creative process behind 'Grease The Hinges Part 1'.
"There were so many parts in this song; we took out a whole section and it just became another song, so expect part two in the near future."
When it came time to scout a location to film the music video, Mecha Mecha were able to secure the perfect place.
"Filmed in a warehouse that was previously a bike factory, and now a commune, the residents and locals were super generous, creative and helpful in facilitating this video with us," the band says.
"There was artwork sprawled throughout the whole building: a space suit, a telescope, a goat, bubble blowing art, and every room you walked into was like a pre-made set.
"It was a music video director's dream really, and it was a lot of fun to make with Adrian Goleby of The Major Lift (then rhythm guitarist of Caligula's Horse).
"We partied the night of the first shoot and so the scene where Isaac is sculling a Gatorade is legitimately a hangover cure too!
"We need to say a massive thanks to everyone who helped out with this video and song, it was such a monolithic process.
"Janelle (warehouse owner), Adrian, Lauren, Tyson, Dani, Eden, Holly, Vinnie, Monica, Josefa, Brett, Debra, Dave, Alicia, Brock, Grunt, Viv, Rory, Ruben, Hayden, Christina, Amanda, Roachy, Omega, Beau and the tenants!"
