Premiere: Watch Mayah's New Music Video 'Loved & Lost'

Mayah is a singer-songwriter from the Sunshine Coast.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

An emerging singer-songwriter who has already built an incredible online audience (her 2019 debut single 'Endless Mistakes' has reached almost 500k Spotify streams), Sunshine Coast artist Mayah's newest release is the heartfelt and emotional 'Loved & Lost'.

Written following the sudden death of a dear family friend, Tavita Karika, Mayah explores her own grief and sadness to create an uplifting, joyous indie pop song rich in acoustic guitar and piano.

The song's release coincides with Queensland Mental Health Week, Mayah being a passionate advocate for mental, emotional and social well-being.

"I'm a massive fan of Mayah and I think she's incredible," the founder of Nurture Festival (a new Sunshine Coast event launching in 2022 dedicated to nurturing happy, healthy youths), Nathan Taylor says.

"Her latest song 'Loved & Lost' resonated with me at a deeper level with my passion for mental health and suicide prevention.

"I'm so proud to have Mayah as a young ambassador and feel extremely privileged to know she will perform at the Nurture Festival, 7 May 2022."

As Mayah releases 'Loved & Lost' today (which is also her first solo-produced song), scenestr is stoked to premiere the song's music video. Enjoy.

"'Loved & Lost' is a reference to Tennyson's notable line 'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all'," explains Mayah.

"Although the song was written from a place of deep grief and loss, it speaks to the part of us which longs to celebrate our lost relationships and cherish the moments spent together.

"Ultimately, it is a song of love, remembrance, celebration, and healing. We all need to find a way to be ok."

Mayah will perform 'Loved & Lost' as well as a number of her other originals (she's already penned an incredible 50 songs of her own compositions) at the launch of Nurture Festival at Mooloolaba Surf Club on Tuesday (12 October).

In the coming weeks, Mayah will perform at Noosa Live & Local (at Land & Sea Brewery) 23 October and Buskers By The Lake (in Birtinya) 31 October.

Mayah and her new rock band, who played at last weekend's Caloundra Music Festival, are booked as the opening act for the Fabulous Caprettos (featuring Daryl Braithwaite, Russell Morris, Jack Jones, and Rai Thistlethwayte) at NightQuarter in January.
